Respiratory Medicine

What we do

Our Respiratory Medicine Department serves as a core facility for respiratory care in Minamiboso, welcoming patients not only from Chiba Prefecture but also from the Kanto region, including Kanagawa and central Tokyo.

Outpatient consultations at the Kameda Clinic are conducted from Monday to Saturday mornings. One of the distinctive features of our outpatient service is that all physicians in our department handle the diagnosis and treatment of all respiratory diseases. Additionally, we offer smoking cessation clinics and actively promote preventive measures such as influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations from a preventative perspective. We collaborate with pharmacists to provide medication guidance and management for patients with respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma and COPD. Chemotherapy for cancer is centralized in our outpatient chemotherapy center as much as possible. We maintain close cooperation with surrounding healthcare facilities and warmly welcome second opinions.

Patients admitted to Kameda General Hospital often present with primary lung cancer, bacterial pneumonia, interstitial pneumonia, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchial asthma. For the treatment of thoracic malignancies, especially primary lung cancer, we conduct weekly conferences jointly with respiratory surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, and certified oncology nurses to practice continuous team-based medical care. Interstitial pneumonia includes various diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a designated intractable disease. We collaborate not only within our department but also with respiratory surgery, radiology, pathology, rehabilitation, and rheumatology departments to enhance diagnostic accuracy and provide effective treatment. Dr. Ito, acting department head, has been conducting specialized outpatient clinics for interstitial pneumonia since April 2020. Since 2012, we have been providing comprehensive respiratory rehabilitation for COPD patients, involving multidisciplinary collaboration among physicians, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists to improve exercise capacity and enhance patients' quality of life (QOL) through rehabilitation, nutritional improvement, medication guidance, and lifestyle support. We also prioritize respiratory endoscopic examinations (bronchoscopy), which are fundamental to the diagnosis of respiratory diseases, continuously introducing the latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques such as local anesthesia thoracoscopy and photodynamic therapy (PDT). We have been pioneering cryobiopsy for interstitial pneumonia since November 2018.

If you experience respiratory symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath, or if you already have a respiratory disease and seek the latest diagnosis and treatment, we encourage you to visit our department.
